How to Apply 30

No special technique is necessary, any welder who can run a flat bead will find it easy to weld with 30. No special preparation is necessary, however, heavy sections are best chamfered to form a 90 degree angle.

1. Apply with AC or DC Reverse Polarity (electrode positive).
2. Bevel sections over 3/16" to a 90 degree V. Bevel sections over 3/8" to a double V or double U joint.
3. Tilt electrode 15 degrees is opposite direction of travel.
4. Apply with stringer beads.
5. Confine weaving to not more than 3 times the diameter of the electrode.
6. Preheat high carbon steels or steels over 2" thick to 400 degree F.
7. Peen to relieve stress on crack sensitive materials.

Slag is easily removed and should be brushed away after each pass. On sheet metal, tack weld prior to welding at numerous spots to avoid warpage. Maintain a short arc in all cases.

Most high alloy electrodes dictate the use of industrial welding equipment, but the formulation of 30 allows excellent deposition on limited outlet welding machines. For example, even if the welding machine will only deliver 65 open circuit volts, 30 will still deposit without arc outages. 30 can be used with small farm type arc welding machines.

It performs well on AC transformers, reactor type machines (both movable coil and tapped transformer) on both selenium and silicon rectifier machines, on classic motor generator sets, engine drive units using either generators or alternators and almost any other machine.

30 will positively deposit at a lower amperage setting than ordinary high alloy electrodes. 30 has been so perfected that it is practically impossible to short circuit the electrode due to the extraordinary high degree of arc ionization.
